The Value in Getting Older

So much of the time we focus on the societal negatives of aging, wrinkles, weight gain, memory issues, decreased energy, and aches and pains.  However, it is the value of our experiences (both positive and negative), and the lessons learned from those experiences that make us better equipped to handle and maneuver life’s journey.  Without having lost at love, would we have ever been able to fully value love when it came?  Without having experienced pain or difficult situations, would we have ever developed the skills for resilience and survival?  Without having lived a life, would we ever know how truly precious life is?

Learn to enjoy the good times for these precious moments will not last forever.  Learn to ride out the bad times, for although they may seem eternal, they will pass.  Learn that Laughter, Hope and Joy are true gifts in life and that dreams do come true though they will often appear in packaging different than we asked.  Learn that Love and Forgiveness should be carried in our hearts always.  Learn that the aging person in the mirror who reflects a vision of ourselves that we never imagined and may be struggling to accept is the wisest and most complete representative of who we are and where we have been.  Learn that our aging self is the vessel of all of my loves, hopes, dreams, accomplishments and misgivings. And as such, has incredible value and deserves to be loved, cherished and adored.  Learn to walk in the truth, light and freedom of who you are and not dragged down by the memories of who you were.  Learn to Live!  Getting older is beautiful!
